Topic: The world is becoming a smaller place because of globalization. Some people dread that culture will inevitably disappear as a result. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is being observed that distances around the world are shrinking due to globalization. There are several people who fear that local customs and traditions will definitely vanish due to this as people will start adopting each other’s cultures. I disagree to a large extent because no matter how much people try to adopt a foreign culture, they do not forget their roots.

To start with, due to globalization, almost every person in the world has access to the same types of clothes, food, movies, entertainment options and so on. Even in a country like India, one can see most of the youth dress alike in the latest fashion like the current trend of oversized T-shirts and distressed jeans. No doubt, they don’t wear their traditional clothes always, resulting in people getting worried that globalization is ruining Indian culture, but these same youth almost always dress up in their traditional clothes during festivals, weddings and other special occasions.

On the other hand, globalization has ruined several traditions, especially some rituals that are performed on auspicious occasions. For instance, in contemporary India, many professionals have foregone the tradition of performing a religious ceremony when they purchase a new house. Instead, they prefer inviting their friends over for a party like the westerners. That’s why it is true to some extent that globalization is making people give up many of their customs and adopt different ways.

In conclusion, it is true to some extent that globalization has shrunk the world and the westerners are copying the East in terms of their spirituality and the East are following the Western clothing, food, and partying styles. However, I still feel that it is not possible to totally let go of one’s culture. (288 words)
